"You can have everything in life you want, as long as you just help enough other people get what they want."
This is one of the most popular quotes from legendary speaker, Zig Ziglar and it is absolutely modeled through his son Tom's life today.
Tom Ziglar has influenced 250 million lives through his work. On today's show, Tom will share about growing up with Zig as his father and how his dad walked the talk he shared with the world.
Tom shares about falling in love with sales, defines what "sales" really means and early failures he endured as a young president of his father's company.
These were my main takeaways from our time together:

He lived pure and simple by putting the right things into his mind.

Life is a Verb. I would not be a writer today if I had not read it. She inspired me to take a leap of faith and put myself out there.
2. Tomorrow you discover your wealthy uncle shockingly dies at the age of 103; leaving you millions. What would you do?
My kids and I have been involved with Compassion International. I would like to do even more! Go over and visit them...sponsor 100's of kids!
3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be?

She was love. She sounded like love. She looked like love. She spread love. And all that love made all the difference in the world.

Today we have on our show Pulitzer Nominated author of 25 books Don Yaeger.
From Walter Payton - one of the most prolific running backs in the history of the NFL - who wanted his book to NOT be about football, but about leaving a legacy as an organ donor…
To John Wooden, who many consider the greatest coach of all time as he led the UCLA Men’s basketball team to 10 national championships in 12 years.
You are going to hear amazing examples of individuals living inspired through Don’s LIBRARY of books he’s written and subsequently, friends he’s made. He'll also share about the lessons he’s learned as a business owner, son of a preacher, husband and father.

1. What is the best book you ever read?
I don't read much fiction, but Nicholas Sparks wrote The Notebook and I've read it over and over again. My mom suffered from Alzheimer's. He is such a gifted wordsmith.
2. Tomorrow you discover your wealthy uncle shockingly dies at the age of 103; leaving you millions. What would you do?
I wouldn't stop working that's for sure. I'm on the national board for Make-A-Wish, so I'd help grant lots of wishes.
3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be?
It's a picture of my wife and I from our wedding day; the outside part of the frame was signed by all of our wedding guests.
4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be?
One more conversation with John Wood. I just loved being in his presence. The last time I saw him I said "Every time I leave you I feel like a better man than when I arrived." "John looked me and said: Don, I hope you make that your standard."
5. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
If you want to be better, always improve you inner circle.

Today's guest is a comedian, author, speaker, huge over-comer and a new, dear friend of mine.
She has been through more challenges and misadventures than most, but exemplifies more grace, forgiveness, courage and perseverance than anyone I have ever met.
You've likely never heard of her but after our time together, I am certain you will never forget her! Kathy Buckley will share her story in such a way that you will be ready to live more inspired than ever before!

These truths were also shared in her book, If You Could See What I Hear. I loved this book and absolutely devoured it.

1. What is the best book you ever read?
Your book! ON FIRE: The 7 Choices to Ignite a Radically Inspired Life.
2. Tomorrow you discover your wealthy uncle shockingly dies at the age of 103; leaving you millions. What would you do?
I don't need much. My needs are covered and my wants are few, so to me money is to provide for others. I volunteer with deaf and hard-of-hearing children through a theater program. I would expand this program to help give a better understanding to more communities.
3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be?
Everybody is out of my house? An item. I'm not attached to anything! I guess my insurance paperwork.
4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be?
Jesus. I would ask him how could he was so committed. How could he have had that faith. Faith is a powerful thing to bless yourself with and I just have such admiration for him. He was there for those who were less fortunate.
5. What is the best advice you've ever received?
My uncle: fear knocked upon my door, faith answered it and no one was there.
Which means fear and anxiety are human created, but when you have faith: you can trust and believe that all good things are there for you to receive.
6. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself at age 20?
I'm sorry I didn't love you like I should have loved you. I probably would just put my arms around her and let her know she was loved.
7. It's been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read?
Kathy loved unconditionally, anyone who crossed her path.

Today’s guest started his first business at 12 years old after asking his dad for money for an icee. His dad responded, "You don’t need money, you need a job!" He promptly started mowing lawns and has been a business owner since.

1. What is the best book you ever read?
I'm a veracious reader. Here's the first that come to mind: Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud. Way back when I was a teenager Daddy made me read How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie. There are only three things you can do with money. Enjoy it. Give it. Invest it. I would do some of each.
3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be?
I have my grandmother’s grandfather’s bible from 1878 he was a Methodist preacher. The notes in it are classic.
4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be?
This week it would be Winston Churchill. His perseverance was amazing and he was a great speaker. There may be a cigar involved when we’re on the bench!
5. What is the best advice you've ever received?
The first pastor that led me to God taught me: Love people.
6. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself at age 20?
You are not nearly as important as you think you are! If you are going to be successful it is going to be a whole lot harder than you thought it was.
7. It's been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read?

2. Tomorrow you discover your wealthy uncle shockingly dies at the age of 103; leaving you millions. What would you do?

3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be?
I don't think there's anything. I wouldn't go back in.
4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be?
Martin Luther King, Jr. I would love to ask. What was it like? How did you do it - so elegantly transform hatred?

It's hard to be nervous when your heart's on service.

The guy who helped people take the stairs and believed that the right way was a different way and it paid off, and they could do it.

I met today’s guest, German-born, bestselling author, journalist and teacher of resilience Michaela Haas, earlier this year when she interviewed me for her column in the “New York Times of Germany.”
Michaela wanted to share about my book ON FIRE because in her writing and research, she focuses on the topic of Post Traumatic Growth. I was so enamored with this topic that I immediately got a copy of her book Bouncing Forward and invited her to be on this podcast!
Through the pages of her book and my time interviewing her, I met some of my new, favorite heroes; each of whom are amazing examples of Living Inspired.
Michaela will give you so much to think about today! Most importantly:

1. What is the best book you ever read?
Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.
2. Tomorrow you discover your wealthy uncle shockingly dies at the age of 103; leaving you millions. What would you do?
First, I would mourn him. Second, I am a rescuer so I would donate most of the money to good causes that rescue people (suicide prevention, trauma prevention) and some to rescue animals.
3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be?
My sister-in-law lost her 3-year-old daughter. We have a recording of her voice that says "you're my best friend" it's in a little cube with her picture. I would definitely grab that cube.
4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be?
Buddha. I am a Buddhist and no one really knows what his true words were because no one wrote them down during his lifetime. So to have an opportunity to actually speak with him, that would be wonderful!
5. What is the best advice you've ever received?
Let go. Easily said though very hard to do. But when I hold onto injustice or loss - I repeat this to myself because there is really no other choice anyway.
6. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself at age 20?
Appreciate life. I had so many worries then - but I had it all! I was healthy. Following my dreams and pursuing my career and travelling the world. I wish that instead of having my mind full of worry, that I would have been more grateful and present.
7. It's been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read?
Love. Light. She made a difference.

January 18th, 2017 will be the 30th anniversary of a very important day for me.
I'd been laying in a hospital bed for a full day after being burned on 100% of my body. I couldn't move. My eyes were swollen shut. Into that darkness came my very special hero, the voice of the St. Louis Cardinals Cardinals, Jack Buck.
He was told I'd die. But yet he came back day after day to encourage me to live. Then, he held "John O'Leary Day" at the Ballpark at Busch stadium to help me celebrate life. Next, he taught me to write again by giving me 60 very special gifts. And the story keeps going...
To do justice to Jack's story and legacy I have a very special guest joining me on our show. Today, we're joined by Emmy-award-winning announcer, father, husband, leader, author and Jack Buck's son: Joe Buck.
Joe will share about his life, his dad and things he can't share on air. From being bullied as a kid to dreaming about how to improve dialogue between inner cities and police enforcement, Joe doesn't hold anything back.
I'm honored to be the first to interview Joe about his new book Lucky Bastard. Join me on Facebook to see how you can win a copy - I bought 60 to share with you!
Do not miss this episode! Here are a few of my key takeaways:

Joe Buck's Live Inspired 7
1. What is the best book you ever read?
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. I only allowed myself to read one page a day because I didn't want it to end. That's how beautiful the writing was.
2. Tomorrow you discover your wealthy uncle shockingly dies at the age of 103; leaving you millions. What would you do?
Come up with a way to open the dialogue between law enforcement and inner cities. Without law enforcement we're lost... I don't know what it is like to live in the inner city or mistrust law force. It must be an awful feeling. So educating... talking... that is where I'd put my money.
3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be?
Nothing. There is not one thing. I learned that the hard way with my Mom's house fire. Is there a picture or letter that I have to have? If it's that important to me, I have it in my mind. I would be upset if we lost the painting of my two daughters. But I can picture it in my mind, I don't have to hold it. As long as everyone can get out, let it burn.
4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be?
I'd love go back and know my Dad as a contemporary. I'd love to see him in his 40's. I didn't really know him in his 40's. I'd like to see him in his 30's; what he was like in WW2 if you were on an airplane coming back from war before he was "Jack Buck." I have a feeling we'd be best friends... I'd also like to tell him "thank you."
5. What is the best advice you've ever received?
From my Dad. He taught me that there's nothing you can say that is more impactful than a loud crowd. So if the Cubs win the world series, shut up and let the stadium shake and let people hear that. Also the golden rule, when no one is watching: treat people the way you want to be treated.
6. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself at age 20?
It's going to be a hell of a ride. Keep doing what you are doing. Be confident in who you are. When you grow up a fat kid, getting made fun of - that stuff never really goes away. I'm not the most confident person in the world -- but you are going to have a great life. Enjoy it while you're going through it.
7. It's been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read?
He was a great father, a good family person, cared more about others than himself and didn't take himself to seriously.

Addiction and cancer threatened her life, but grace and endurance gave it back to her.
In a world where the media frequently loves to buy, sell, trade and speak in fear, Teri Griege realizes and honors that the human spirit is powered by hope and starved for inspiration.
She has made it her life's work to be a pillar of hope and she has already done so by being: an iron man, author, triathlete, cancer survivor and sober for more than 20 years.
From our time with Teri, you will be reminded that life is full of good people. Appearances are deceiving. Belief in self matters. Odds are over rated. "God winks" exist.

I am so honored to have author, speaker and trainer, Brian Buffini, as my guest on the inaugural episode of the Live Inspired Podcast.
A few years ago I shared a stage with Brian at his event, The Success Tour, where we spoke to a stadium with thousands of of real estate professionals.
Little did I know that that day I would meet my mentor and a dear, dear friend.
Brian's direction has helped me to improve my speaking, business, faith, family life and led directly to me writing and releasing my bestselling book ON FIRE.
Brian is an expert in the real estate industry, but his vision applies well beyond and continues to inspire thousands of people each year. Today, you are among them!
My favorite takeaway from this episode is the lesson Brian learned from his grandpa:

My mom has taught me more about resilience, faith, courage, redemption, family, love and life than ANYONE else in the world. I am so honored to have her as my guest on this very special, preview episode of the LIVE INSPIRED Podcast!
If you've ever heard me speak, you've heard a lot about the impact my mom has had on my life. But for those of you who've not heard me speak, here is just one example. My mom and dad's unauthorized biography of my life, Overwhelming Odds, is what encouraged me to accept, own and celebrate my scars and my story.
As if that wasn't enough! The initial 200 copies they printed to share with friends and family has resulted in my becoming a professional speaker nearly 10 years ago and the subsequent sale of more than 60,000 copies...

I would give large amounts to my kids...and family and friends who could really use the help. I'd get something really going with Parkinson's Disease Research. And I would go on a river boat cruise in Europe.
3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be?
My bible. Being a bible teacher for the last 18 years, I know that is where our true stories lie.
4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be?
Martin Luther King.
5. What is the best advice you've ever received?
My mom used to always tell me, "Put on your lipstick and you can go anywhere!" It has helped me through life. I'll keep this one lighthearted!
6. Looking back, what advice would you give yourself at age 20?
With relationships, work at letting any hurt feelings or harsh words go. Put them behind you and just keep going.
7. It's been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read?
She came, through blessings, to know the Lord and love Him and she tried her best to pass that love on to her family and friends.
